We should never take the life and beauty of Floyds Fork for granted.

It is the only living waterway remaining within the city limits.

Louisville Keep Your Fork was started in 2022 in response to the drastic acceleration in erosion and sharp increase in irresponsible developments being proposed within the Floyds Fork DRO (Development Review Overlay). We moved to Floyds Fork in 2013 and immediately fell in love with the river's beauty, wildlife, and recreation. However, living on the Fork has given us a front-row seat to the damage being done. We watch each storm have a dramatic effect upon the banks--eroding whole islands, destroying vegetation, and moving huge quantities of topsoil down the river.  (Our neighbor has lost an astounding 10' of bank just over several years and another lost 12' in ONE storm!)

About LKYF

Louisville Keep Your Fork is a non-profit that advocates for Floyds Fork, Louisville’s premier wildlife corridor. Our vision is to preserve and protect the beauty, wildlife, and recreation this waterway provides. We seek to influence, inspire, and inform civic leaders, business owners, environmental advocates, and residents. We believe that Floyds Fork is a natural treasure that must be protected. Floyds Fork is the last natural living waterway within Jefferson County and is the habitat for over 40 species of fish, 100s of birds and an astounding number of reptiles, amphibians, mollusks, and mammals. These animals depend on clean water and the natural tree canopy for their very existence. This waterway’s beauty, wildlife, and adventure rivals any state park and worthy of preserving, protecting, and showcasing.

Louisville Keep Your Fork is NOT opposed to development. The development community plays a critical role within the larger community, taking enormous risks & creatingemployment opportunities for many people. However, Floyds Fork is a special area which is vulnerable & in need of protection. Louisville Keep Your Fork is focused on highlighting irresponsible developments impacting Louisville's 31 miles of the Floyds Fork ZOD waterway.  It is possible to respectfully develop along Floyds Fork, preserving this beautiful area.
